The Brand
The Green Belt Movement is an international nonprofit that trains and empowers women in rural Kenya to plant trees and build valuable watershed systems to transform their communities and fight deforestation.
The Problem
Since GBM’s charismatic founder, Wangari Maathai, passed away in 2011, it has been hard for the organization to build momentum on a global level. With their “It Takes a Village” campaign, GBM wanted large eye-catching graphics that would stand out and strengthen both brand awareness and donations with a younger audience
The Solution
I created a campaign that uses bold typography, a nature-inspired color palette, hand-drawn botanical illustrations, and collage photo treatments to encourage users to donate, spread the word, and learn about the ecological and cultural impact of GBM’s work.
